The Newsroom (2012) | so the pilot aired last night, and my gut reaction was: why is this a show? (rhetorical, because duh—Aaron Sorkin wanted to make it). it’s just so nostalgic about a nostalgic time when people put stock in broadcast/cable journalism, i don’t think it’s the most relevant show out there. i enjoy a good bit of AC360 every now and then, but hard hitting tv news? really? dream of the ’90s much? aside from that, the Sorkin-style is unmistakable—long-winded sermonizing and walk and talks…but of things we already know about/have seen. in an era of amazing tv writing that doesn’t treat its viewers like idiots (see Mad Men and Breaking Bad), this show needs to step up its game. hopefully it does so in the next few episodes.
